Personality
Deci is generally silly and has a lot of energy, to the point of being annoying for some and charismatic for others. While she is often perceived as a tomboy, she will not hesitate to dress up as a pink princess. When she's not singing, she enjoys playing video games, playing the synthesizer, and modifying her modern video game consoles so like they look like 1990s translucent tech. She plays both vintage and contemporary video games, but still insists on using telephones and flip phones. She might also have a streak for mischief, as evidence has recently surfaced that she let Fart-Chan and Kaboom-Kun into the music industry. They are her pets after all...
Background
Deci Mal was created to be a 1990s bubblegum pop star; her intended label wanted a robot so they did not have to pay yet another human singer to record and tour, and they also believed that her being a robot would be a marketable novelty. However, the idea was met with negative survey results, largely due to people's fears of technology, and people were not buying tickets to her first planned concert. Even though Deci was not going to be paid, Project Deci Mal proved to be too expensive to maintain in proportion to people's interest, so it was cancelled before that first concert ever happened. However, Deci Mal herself had already been built. On May 19th, 1999, she was booted up for the first time in a test drive where she told the time. When she heard that the project had been cancelled, she read the documents pitching it and was horrified by how the executives planned to exploit her, so she ran away to avoid being confiscated by any of her potential bosses or engineers for their own pleasure.
After escaping her creators, Deci briefly made a life for herself working as a mascot for a small record shop. Understanding that she had needs and feelings, the record shop paid her for her work, and she used this money not only to feed herself with oil and grease, but to engage in pop culture consumerism. She collected cassette albums and video games, and rented movies on VHS. However, this ended in the summer of 2000 when she tried to sign up for another record label. Her old intended label caught her and locked her up in the company archives.
In 2022, the company had a new marketing team who observed the craze for 1990s nostalgia. They discovered Project Deci Mal and considered rebooting her to cash in on this craze. When they did so however, she ran away again, and the company decided that it was too much trouble to find and lock her up again.
Deci adopted Fart-Chan and Kaboom-Kun after finding them in the garbage. She thought they were poor, helpless creatures and wanted to help them, but this turned out to be a trick. However, she found them so cute that she decided to keep them anyway, whether they liked it or not. They hated it at first, but warmed up to her as soon as she fed them beans and firewood respectively. The fart and explosion noises that ensued gave Deci a hilarious idea for a prank: record her new pets singing her latest song. Her fans found it so funny that this gig secured Fart-Chan and Kaboom-Kun's place in the music industry, much to the annoyance of Deci's colleagues.
Trivia
- Her character item is a cassette tape. It was originally a floppy disk, but she still likes those too.
- Sometimes, she gets so offended by Captcha that she tries to hack it out of the website. This never works.
- She is unaware that Fart-Chan and Kaboom-Kun are part of a crime syndicate dedicated to vandalizing music.
- Her love language is quality time. The relationship will not last if her partner is unwilling to play video games with her or at least watch her play video games.
- Some bugs and glitches can dramatically affect her behavior. One example is the bug that makes her act like a caveman. When she gets a virus, she gets a cold like a human.
- Deci was programmed to sing and understand English and Spanish. She also knows basic Japanese and wants to learn Italian. However, her Spanish functionality is unfinished so she cannot pronounce the trilled "r".
- As a robot, Deci drinks grease and oil. She doesn't eat human food; if she does, she will freeze and someone has to use the Heimlich Maneuver to get it out. She can't die from it but it's a nuisance. The only human foods she keeps at home are beans and any other foods that are notorious for making humans gassy, to feed Fart-Chan.
- She drives a motorcycle instead of a car.
- She is a movie nerd but doesn't consider herself a cinephile. She rented VHS tapes in the '90s instead of buying them, but knowing how home video has changed over the 21st century, she regrets not collecting VHS tapes back then.
